Google’s Latest PROJECT OWL Update Demotes Fake News with Misleading Content

With latest updates, Google officially came out with an “algorithm update” and several changes regarding search result management for news which are FAKE and contains “offensive or clearly misleading content.” This update is widely known as PROJECT OWL.

Google announced it to the world on its blog, stating:

  • With an aim to authenticate and promote original content on search engines, Google is modifying the algorithm. This algorithm will highlight and demote content which is misleading and contains aggressive content.
  • The Search Quality Raters Guidelines by Google has been upgraded to supervise proper functioning of this algorithm.
  • Feedback forms are added on Google search for:
  1. Autocomplete suggestions
  2. Featuring Snippets
